The catch, if you wear a size 11, 12, 13, or 14, is that most wedges stop at a 10. Why wedges are worth it when you wear a larger size
A wedge spreads your weight across the whole sole instead of balancing it on a narrow heel. For a longer foot, that matters. The contact patch is bigger, so the shoe feels steadier and your arch gets more support over a long day. The platform under the toe also shortens the drop from heel to ball, which takes pressure off the front of your foot. You get the height of a heel with a lot less ache by hour six.
There is a proportion benefit too. A leggy wedge balances a maxi dress or wide-leg linen pants without looking dainty against a size 12 frame the way a kitten heel can.
What to check before you buy
Length is only half the fit. If you have a wider foot, look for an adjustable ankle or instep strap so you can set the tension yourself, and favor a round or square toe over a sharp point that pinches across the widest part of the foot.
